El Paredon is a coastal village located on the Pacific coast of Guatemala, renowned for its pristine beaches and world-class surfing conditions. Nestled away from the bustling tourist spots, this hidden gem offers visitors a unique blend of tranquillity and adventure. You won’t find thousands of tourists queueing up at restaurants or fighting for best spot on the beach. This travel guide for El Paredon is full of tips and information to make that trip to the west coast of Guatemala even more fulfilling!

El Paredon provides a quieter and smoother experience of Guatemala’s serene seas and beautiful black sand beaches. Most streets are made of sand and the nature flows freely through the town. Highlights of El Paredon

Surfing: Consistent waves and uncrowded beaches make it ideal for surfers. This beach goes on into the distance at both ends with merely a handful of people to enjoy it.

Wildlife: Home to diverse fauna, including sea turtles and exotic birds. Here I ran into street cats and dogs, vibrant yellow spiders and crabs swimming through the river.

Local Culture: Experience authentic Guatemalan culture through local food and traditions. As El Paredon is so small, it hasn’t been filled to the brim with hostels, AirBnB’s and American restaurants yet. It gives a great chance to meet people from El Paredon and to make connections.

Eco-Tourism: Opportunities for mangrove tours and conservation projects.

Whether seeking relaxation or adventure, El Paredon has something for everyone.

Highly recommend!

Mangrove Tours and Wildlife Observation

The location of that striking yellow spider I mentioned earlier. Embark on a fascinating adventure through El Paredon's lush mangrove forests. Paddle through serene waterways with a guided kayak tour, offering unique opportunities to spot exotic wildlife.

There are so many options for travelling the mythical mangroves. From paddleboarding to couples kayaking there is an option for everybody. I went for a private tour organised by my hostel host

Lo and behold a tiny plastic boat showed up with a single paddle being guided by a local traverser of the waterways. A truly beautiful way to experience this fantastical fauna. With the boat being powered by a person there was no extra energy being wasted and no fuel dumped in the rivers.

Birdwatching: Witness a plethora of bird species, including herons, kingfishers, and egrets. I was shocked by how many herons there were.

Marine Life: Glimpse fish, crabs, and other marine creatures thriving in the mangroves. Seeing a crab swimming along the water was a fantastically funny experience.

Local Guides: Benefit from the expertise of local guides, providing insights into the rich ecosystem.
