Welcome, food enthusiasts, to the vibrant streets of Mexico City, where every corner offers a tantalizing array of flavors, aromas, and culinary wonders. Join me on a gastronomic journey as we uncover 10 of the best street food spots in this bustling metropolis, where tradition meets innovation and every bite tells a story.

Hamburgesa on Colima and Morelia

I know I know, Hamburgers on this list, what am I crazy!? Yes, I am. For these burgers. As someone who prides themselves on being a little bit of a burger aficionado, these are some of the best I’ve ever tried. Maybe it’s seeing the meat being grilled just half a metre from your face or the ruthless cohesion with which the crew operate to get the burgers out as rapidly as possible. But I haven’t quite found a taste like these zesty and spicy burgers in this quaint little corner of Roma Norte.

Tostadas Coyoacán

For crispy delights bursting with flavor, head to Tostadas Coyoacán. Here, you'll find an array of tostadas topped with marinated seafood, ceviche, or shredded chicken, all served on a crunchy corn tortilla and garnished with avocado, salsa, and a sprinkle of queso fresco. It's a symphony of textures and tastes that will leave your taste buds dancing and the service will leave your face smiling!

El Moro Churrería

A little bit of an institution this one. Indulge your sweet tooth at El Moro Churrería, a beloved tienda  famous for its freshly fried churros dusted with cinnamon sugar and served with a side of rich, velvety chocolate dipping sauce (or condensed milk, which I highly recommend). Whether enjoyed for breakfast or as a decadent snack, these churros are a melt-in-your-mouth delight that shouldn't be missed. Must be accompanied by a chocolate frio drink for the perfect combination.

Tacos de Canasta

Experience the artistry of traditional Mexican cuisine at Tacos de Canasta. These "basket tacos" are filled with a variety of flavorful ingredients such as potato and chorizo, tinga (shredded chicken in chipotle sauce), or frijoles refritos (refried beans), then steamed to perfection and served piping hot. Each bite is a burst of savory goodness.

La Esquina del Chilaquil

Craving comfort food with a Mexican twist? Look no further than La Esquina del Chilaquil. This cozy spot specializes in chilaquiles, a beloved dish featuring crispy tortilla chips smothered in tangy salsa verde or roja, topped with creamy refried beans, cheese, onions, and a dollop of crema. It's the ultimate brunch indulgence. This has become a massive breakfast favourite for me and will continue to be while I’m in Mexico.

Antojitos La Chiapaneca

Dive into the world of antojitos (Mexican street snacks) at Antojitos La Chiapaneca. From sopes and huaraches to tlacoyos and gorditas, this bustling eatery offers a cornucopia of options filled with savory meats, fresh vegetables, and zesty salsas. Don't miss their quesadillas, stuffed with gooey Oaxaca cheese and your choice of filling.

El Califa

Craving tacos with a gourmet twist? El Califa is your destination for elevated street food. Their tacos de carne asada feature succulent grilled beef marinated to perfection, served on warm corn tortillas and garnished with cilantro, onions, and a squeeze of lime. Pair them with a refreshing agua fresca for the perfect meal.

El Pescadito

Seafood lovers rejoice at El Pescadito, a seafood street food gem offering fresh and flavorful ceviches, tacos de pescado (fish tacos), and cocteles de mariscos (seafood cocktails). Dive into their marinated octopus tostadas or indulge in their shrimp aguachile for a taste of Mexico's coastal delights.

Taquería Los Cocuyos

Step into Taquería Los Cocuyos for a late-night taco feast that's worth staying up for. Open until the early hours of the morning, this taquería serves up delectable tacos al pastor, suadero (braised beef), and campechano (a mix of meats) that hit the spot after a night of exploring Mexico City's nightlife.

Elotes y Esquites La Esquinita de Rosita

No culinary tour of Mexico City is complete without sampling elotes (grilled corn on the cob) and esquites (corn cups). Head to Elotes y Esquites La Esquinita de Rosita for these iconic street snacks, topped with mayo, cheese, chili powder, and a squeeze of lime. It's a symphony of flavors that captures the essence of Mexican street food.

As you traverse the vibrant streets of Mexico City, let your taste buds be your guide and indulge in the culinary delights that make this city a food lover's paradise. From savory tacos to sweet churros, each bite tells a story of tradition, creativity, and passion for good food. ¡Buen provecho!
