Coffee in Roma Norte, Mexico City - A mixed blend

The Coffee Chronicles: From London to Mexico City

Coffee has been more than just a beverage for me; it's been a passion and a bridge connecting me to people and flavors around the world. My love affair with coffee began at the age of 18 when I helped to open a coffee shop in Lewisham, London. Those early days were filled with excitement, learning, and a deep appreciation for the art of crafting the perfect cup.

Over the next three years, I immersed myself in the world of coffee, in the pursuit of bitter bean brilliance. My time in London laid the foundation for what would become a lifelong pursuit of exceptional coffee experiences.

When I relocated to Toronto, Canada, my journey took on new dimensions. Toronto's vibrant coffee scene opened my eyes to a plethora of flavors and techniques, from specialty roasts to innovative brewing methods. Each coffee shop I visited became a chapter in my exploration, offering a glimpse into the city's diverse tapestry through the lens of the untoppable oat milk latte .

As I moved to Montreal, with its European flair and culinary sophistication, I was shown a Frencher side to coffee. Here, I discovered the art of balancing rich espresso with velvety milk in perfect harmony, creating lattes that were not just beverages but works of art in themselves. The city's cozy cafes and passionate baristas left a mark on my coffee-loving heart, setting the stage for my next adventure in Mexico City.

Enter Mexico City: A Latte Lover's Paradise

Through my first week in Mexico City, I have been greeted by a coffee culture steeped in tradition yet brimming with innovation. The quest for the perfect oat milk latte, or "Una latte con leche de avena," became my mission as I explore the city's coffee hotspots, eager to uncover hidden gems and flavor treasures.

My first stop was Panaderia Rosetta, a beacon of excellence in Mexico City's coffee landscape. The memories of my own coffee shop in London came flooding back as I savored their oat milk latte—a symphony of smooth milk, robust coffee flavor, and impeccable temperature balance. The bustling ambiance added a touch of excitement, reminding me of the vibrant energy that fuels the coffee community. 8.5 out of 10.

At Otra Cafe, I experienced a more local vibe, reminiscent of the cozy cafes I frequented in Toronto and Montreal. While the coffee fell short of expectations, the handmade cup design and welcoming atmosphere spoke volumes about the cafe's commitment to craftsmanship and community. 5 out of 10.

Constela, unfortunately missed the mark for me. The coffee itself lacked the power I usually love and the milk had dried out through overheating, highlighting the delicate dance between flavors and techniques that define a truly exceptional latte experience. A redeeming quality for this coffee was the beautiful latte art, mirroring the cafes stunning surroundings. 3 out of 10.

One particular stop stood out as a testament to the city's coffee culture. Cafe Club FC, a football and photography-focused space that also serves phenomenal coffee, nestled into a quiet spot in Roma Norte. The space was adorned with football memorabilia and captivating photographs, creating an atmosphere that was both nostalgic and inspiring.

The oat milk latte I ordered was an absolute delight. The milk was the smoothest I had encountered in Mexico City, adding a luxurious creaminess to each sip. The coffee was full of flavor, with hints of richness and depth that made it a pleasure to drink. The balance between milk and coffee was expertly executed, showcasing the barista's skill and attention to detail.

What made Cafe Club FC even more special was the overall experience it offered. As I savored my latte, I had the opportunity to watch the Arsenal vs. Man City game, a battle between two premier league titans. Adding an extra layer of enjoyment to my Sunday morning. The combination of great coffee, captivating ambiance, and live sports made it the perfect way to unwind.

It's places like Cafe Club FC that remind me of the magic of coffee—a beverage that not only awakens the senses but also brings people together in shared moments of joy and connection. Cafe Club FC scores a 9 out of 10.

The Coffee Chronicles Continue...

As I reflect on my coffee journey—from the pop-up coffee shops of Lewisham, South London to the bustling cafes of Mexico City—I'm struck by the universal language that coffee speaks. It transcends borders and cultures, uniting coffee lovers in a shared appreciation for the craft and the moments of joy it brings.

My experiences in Toronto (in cafe's like 'The Library' on Queen Street West and 'Carbonic Coffee'' on Baldwin St) and Montreal (Le Petit Dep on St Laurent and Cafe Eclair on Maguire St) taught me the importance of ambiance and community in shaping the coffee experience. These lessons were reaffirmed in Mexico City, where each cafe told a unique story through its flavors, designs, and the passionate people behind the counter.

Looking ahead, I remain optimistic about the future of coffee and the endless possibilities it holds. My journey is far from over, with new cafes to explore, flavors to savor, and stories to discover. As I continue my quest for the perfect oat milk latte, from London to Toronto and Montreal to Mexico City, one truth endures... Coffee and community are an unbeatable combination!
